Mozilla has just conducted a closing workshop on its pilot project, Webmaker, last weekend at the Development Innovation, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The workshop conducted with the attendance from the trainees in the pilot program as well as people from various places with the interest in Mozilla and Webmaker.
It is worth reminding that the Webmaker pilot program has started months ago with a starting point of Appmaker which allows non-coders to be able to create mobile applications by just simply dragging and dropping preset bricks into a mobile screen imposter. The final make of an appmaker could then be published and run on various devices and operation systems on an internet browser. After a short while, Mozilla has decided to put a pause on the Appmaker and introduced another powerful yet simple tool for the trainees to learn and create content online with just a few single click on the very android mobile devices they have in their hands.

The Webmaker closing sessions started with the presentation of the potential of the tool itself on how it could help transforming people from content viewers into content creators.

The Webmaker closing sessions started with the presentation of the potential of the tool itself on how it could help transforming people from content viewers into content creators.
Amidst the workshop, the trainees were asked to presents
what they have made on webmaker and if they wish to take part in a competition
with the rules of whose content got most votes will win the prize from Mozilla.
Twelves participants finally decided to hop into the pool and get their
creation voted by the rest of the attendees. Here are the name of the
competitors and their makes.
Vorng Song: The Amazing World
At the end of the pool sessions three finalists were
announce with and coincidental tally of 25 votes each. The winners were Mr. Lay
Sovann Vathana, Mr. Seyha Ly Chheang, and Mr. Rethiya Khan.
Trainees Perception:
At the end of the sessions, all the trainees have to go
through an exit interview where they will have to give in their own thoughts,
feedback, and recommendations to the webmaker developer team.
Most of the thoughts centered around this fact that webmaker
is an amazing new tool that fits for everyone to use to create online content,
most important of all, those who have limited knowledge in terms of Information
Technology and coding. “I would describe this webmaker as a very easy and
simple tool to create online contents and share it to friends and other people,”
said a trainee. Of course the tool is quite self-explaining given their simple
interface, buttons, and so on. However, there are still glitches and limitation
that all the trainees would ask for more from the webmaker.
“Webmaker is very simple and it is useful, but sometimes it
is too simple for me to start something with it,” said Sorthy, one of the
trainees of the webmaker. Some other participants also share similar thoughts
on how limited the webmaker was. For example, some trainees claimed the tool
does not allow people to easily align inserted content in each page while some
others asks for more features which includes the functions of videos, linking to
external sources or websites, the ability to add animations to inserted
contents, etc.
